JOB DESCRIPTION
The Colosseum Head of Department - Video is responsible for overseeing all aspects that pertain to the show operations for the Caesars Palace Colosseum entertainment venue. This includes the loading in, operation and loading out of all performances, events, and shows. This person is responsible for all maintenance, crewing, and execution of all department specifics for the venue to ensure a successful and safe production. This position is a supervisory, hourly position reporting to the Colosseum Technical Director and will work alongside peer Heads of Department in achieving success.
Must be a certified member in good standing from IATSE local 720. Specific theatrical crafts/skill sets to be validated by IATSE local 720. “A” list preferred.
Essential Job Functions
- Leading the Colosseum video team. Representing the Colosseum and its leadership to visiting artist’s production teams, other IATSE crew members, and Caesars’ team members.
- Must know the operation of all video equipment. Switchers, cameras, CCUs, projectors, LED walls, interface units, media servers, and supplementary equipment.
- Communicate with Colosseum security and production teams on any issues that need addressing then prioritizing and solving those problems as quickly as possible.
- Responsible for coordination of ordering supplies and parts as needed.
- Keeps the Colosseum paperwork and technical package up to date. This will include CAD work in AutoCAD to generate show specific drawings or permit drawing packages as needed.
- Trains subordinates, providing each with the knowledge, development, and appropriate direction to perform his/her responsibilities.
- Effectively communicate challenges and provide solutions for problems to ensure no loss of shows or impact on productions.
- When present, act as a surrogate for Technical Director during non-show days or off-hours.
- Reviews show schedule and works with the Technical Director to schedule staff accordingly. This includes staffing all shows with a director, shader, and camera ops, as needed.
- Works with the Technical Director on operating and capital budgets for their department.
- Makes recommendations to improve the venue’s technical and production equipment.
- Lead show changes, installations, and venue modifications as needed.
- Constantly evaluating the theater for all fire and life safety, OSHA and risk management violations and addressing accordingly. Being point person for theater safety coordination with other departments and property teams.
- Works with Technical Director on advancing performance dates, interpreting technical riders and arranging for equipment in order to fulfill contract and rider requirements.
- Supervises load-in, set-up, system checks, show performance, strike, and load out.
- Coordinates with personnel from other departments to ensure flawless delivery of shows to Colosseum guests and visiting artists and their production teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Director.
Additional Responsibilities
You will be expected to work a non-traditional schedule (evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.) planning for and supporting performances in the Colosseum. You will operate in a dynamic, fast paced, and at times stressful environment and will be expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously while demonstrating appropriate judgement on prioritization of each. This job requires a highly energetic, detail-oriented self-starter who can work as a member of a team to solve problems and create in-person experiences that make lasting impacts.
All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental, property, and company policies, practices, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Technical Theater or related field preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in setup and operation of large-scale events and shows in a theater or arena environment.
- Minimum of four (4) years of supervisory leadership experience.
- In-depth knowledge of video systems, switchers, cameras, projectors, LED, and media servers.
- Proficient in video networking and distribution systems.
- OSHA 30 general industry certification is required prior to employment.
- Basic AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks skills are a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to learn and adapt to new technology that is related to current venue operations.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication, team management, and problem-solving skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability in maintaining consistent, high quality service levels.
- Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling conflicts.
- Must be able to work at a fast pace and in stressful situations.
- Must have knowledge of basic computer systems and applications.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must be willing to work any day of the week and any shift.
- Must present a well-groomed appearance.
Physical, Mental And Environmental Demands
This position requires the ability to climb stairs, stand for long periods of time, endure substantial walking, bending, lifting of up to 50lbs and working in a smoke-filled and flashing or reduced lighting environment.
